#1) Clean out old/unused files in Internet Explorer
a)
Open Internet Explorer
b) On the drop menu, select “Tools”, then “Internet Options”
c) Select button “Delete Files”. Select check box “delete offline content”.
d) Click ok.
#2) Load the Google Tool Bar to prevent pop-ups.
a) go to http://toolbar.google.com/
b) click on “download google toolbar”…follow the instructions. Very easy to do.
#3) Load ADAWARE to remove advertising/marketing/spy programs.
a) go to http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/
b) select the full install download and follow instructions
c) Install the program (Next, "I accept", Next, Next, Next, "anyone who uses this computer", Next, Next, Uncheck all 3 boxes, Finish)
d) Copy the defs.ref file to c:\program files\lavasoft\ad-aware se personal
d) Click the Adaware icon on the desktop (Start, Next, When finished check all boxes (right click-select all), Remove)
#4) Run the free web based anti-virus program from Trend Micro.
a) go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
b) follow the “scan now…its free” link
c) follow the instructions
d) this will take a while to run
